The checks don't use AI. Only the lines that need a rewrite go to the AI model, with your name, email, phone and links removed. We don't store your CV. Privacy

What the CV review checks

The review runs up to 20 checks, the things a busy recruiter looks for in the first minute. Each one measures something on your CV, compares it with a range for your career level and region, and tells you how it was worked out. The checks are fixed rules, not AI, so the same CV always gets the same result. For the lines that need work, you also get a suggested rewrite to adapt, written by an AI model that's told never to add facts you didn't give.

Impact

The share of your bullet points that include a number (aim for 40% or more) and that start with an action verb (70% or more). "Responsible for the website" and "Rebuilt the checkout, lifting orders by [X%]" read very differently to a recruiter.

Bullet points and length

How many bullet points you have, for each recent role and in total, how long each one is, and your word count, against ranges for your career level (entry, mid or senior).

Language

Filler and duty phrases such as "responsible for" and "team player", "I" and "my" in bullets, the same verb used again and again, present tense for past roles, and common spelling mistakes.

Fit for the job

Paste the job ad and the review lists its keywords with a tick or a cross for each one on your CV. With just a job title, it uses a list of skills common in ads for that role.

Sections and dates

Work experience, education and skills present; a summary of the right length; sections in a sensible order; a start and end date for every role, most recent first, and gaps flagged.

Your region

Contact details, and personal details such as a photo, date of birth or marital status: expected in some countries, out of place in others (the UK, Ireland, the US and Canada).

How the score works

Your CV gets a score from 0 to 100: the weighted share of the checks it passes. Each fix shows how many points it's worth, so you know where to start. The same CV always gets the same score, so after you edit, re-checking shows exactly what changed. Checks we can't judge (for example, bullet points in a PDF whose layout we couldn't read) are left out of the score rather than counted against you.

ScoreBand
85 to 100Ready to sendStrong, specific and tidy. Tailor it to each job and apply.
70 to 84Good, with a few fixesA solid CV. The high-priority suggestions will make the biggest difference.
50 to 69Needs some workThe basics are there, but bullets probably describe duties rather than results.
Below 50Needs major workKey sections are missing or thin. Start with the high-priority fixes, then review again.

A high score does not guarantee interviews, and a low one does not mean you are a weak candidate. It means the CV is not showing your experience as well as it could. Fix the high-priority items first, then review again.

Example of the feedback

This is what a review looks like. It is a made-up example for a made-up junior marketing CV, so you can see the format before you try it.

64

Needs some work

A clear, well-organised CV for a junior marketing role, but most bullets describe tasks rather than results, so it undersells the experience.

What's working

  • Clear job titles and dates for every role
  • A relevant skills list that matches the target job

What to improve

High priority Experience

"Responsible for social media accounts" describes a duty, not what changed because of you.

Say what you did and what happened as a result. Use a real figure if you have one.

Example: fill in the [brackets] and keep only what’s true for you

Planned and posted content for 3 social accounts, growing Instagram followers by [X%] in [period].

Medium Summary

The summary opens with "Hard-working team player", which every reader has seen many times.

Lead with your role, your strongest skill and the kind of job you want.

Example: fill in the [brackets] and keep only what’s true for you

Marketing assistant with two years of social media and email experience, looking for a content marketing role.

Nice to have Skills

The job ad asks for "email marketing", which the CV only mentions inside a bullet.

If you have used it, add it to your skills list in the same words as the ad.

This feedback is written automatically and can be wrong. Use your judgement before changing your CV.

Fix it in the editor

Feedback is only useful if it is easy to act on. If you built your CV in the free CV builder, every suggestion has a Fix in editor button. It opens your CV at the right section, such as your summary or work experience, with the suggestion and its example right next to it, ready to copy.

If you uploaded a PDF, choose Import into the editor and fix it. We sort your CV into the editor's sections, copying your own words rather than rewriting them, and your review comes with it. Your name, email, phone and links are filled in from your file in your browser, so they are never sent for review. If the editor already holds a CV, you are asked before it is replaced. Check each section afterwards: text read from a PDF, especially a two-column one, can end up in the wrong place.

Your privacy

  • The checks don't use AI. Only the few lines that need a rewrite go to the AI model, with email addresses, phone numbers and web links taken out first. Your name, photo, date of birth and references are never sent to it.
  • Your PDF stays on your device. It is opened and read in your browser. Only the text is sent, and only when you ask for a review or an import.
  • Your CV isn't stored. Suggested rewrites are kept for 7 days under a one-way code, so the same request isn't paid for twice, then deleted. The model runs on Cloudflare, which does not use it to train models. See the privacy policy for details.

CV review or ATS checker?

They answer different questions, and most people benefit from both. The free ATS resume checker asks "can software read my file?": it looks for columns, images, unusual headings and missing contact details, runs entirely in your browser and needs no account. This review asks "is my content convincing?": it reads what you wrote and tells you how to make it stronger. Run the ATS check on your final PDF, and use the review while you are still writing.

How to get the most from your CV feedback

  • Add the job you want. A review for "Marketing Manager" is more useful than a general one, because it can point out missing keywords.
  • Keep only what is true. Fill in the [brackets] with real figures. If you do not have a number, describe the result in words instead.
  • Fix the high-priority items first. They are listed at the top for a reason.
  • Review again after big changes. You get 1 free review a day, or 5 with Pro, so you can check your progress and tailor your CV for different jobs.
  • Use your judgement. Feedback can be wrong or miss context about your field. You know your experience best.

Frequently asked questions

Is the CV review really free?

Yes. You need a free account, which includes 1 review a day. Pro gives you 5 a day. Building your CV and downloading it as a PDF never needs an account.

Why do I need an account for the review?

Each review costs us money to run, so a free account lets us give everyone a fair daily allowance and stop automated abuse. Accounts are free, need no payment details, and you can delete yours at any time.

What is sent for review, and is it stored?

The checks run on our server and in your browser, without AI. For suggested rewrites, only the few lines that need work (with emails, phone numbers and links removed) and the job title you enter go to an AI model running on Cloudflare, which does not use them to train models. We do not store your CV. Rewrites are kept for 7 days under a one-way code so the same request is not paid for twice; for CVs saved to your account we keep the scores for your score history.

Can I review a CV I made in Word or another builder?

Yes. Save or export it as a PDF and choose "Upload my CV (PDF)". The PDF is read in your browser and only its text is sent, when you ask for a review. A scanned CV or a photo of a CV has no text to read, so export it again from the program you made it in.

Does importing my PDF into the editor use one of my reviews?

No. "Import into the editor and fix it" sorts your CV into the editor's sections, copying your own words. It has its own allowance (3 imports on the free plan, more with Pro) and does not count as one of your reviews. Check each section after importing, as text from a PDF can land in the wrong place.

Will it rewrite my CV for me?

No. It tells you what to change and gives a one-line example for some suggestions. Anything you need to fill in yourself, such as a number, is shown in [square brackets]. You decide what to use, and you only keep what is true for you.

Does it work for US resumes and other languages?

Yes, for CVs and resumes: set "Where you're applying" to US and Canada for one-page resume rules. The checks are tuned for English; suggested rewrites come in the language of your CV.

Is the score the same as an ATS score?

No. The score measures how well your content shows your experience: impact, length, language, sections, dates and job keywords. It cannot tell you how a particular employer's software will rank you. To check whether software can read your file, use the free ATS resume checker, which runs in your browser.
